Karnataka News: A tragic incident took place in Davanagere, Karnataka where two second-year college students died by suicide after a video of their intimate moment on their college’s terrace went viral on social media. The viral video is a reminder on how devastating is impact of cyberbullying and invasion of privacy in digital age. 

Video recorded without consent, Families seek justice 

The 3.21-minute video clip of the students’ intimate moments was recorded and shared without their knowledge or consent, causing immense distress and humiliation for the young couple. This severe decision was first taken by the girl, after the girl’s death, the boy also decided to that he doesn’t want to live anymore as a result he also ended his life. Leaving families devastated.  

After the death of their beloved childs, the families of both the students have filed case and demand justice. They want the culprit who recorded the video to get suffer. The Davanagere Superintendent of Police, K Arun, assured that an inquiry is underway to identify the culprits responsible for the video’s circulation.

A rash of disturbing incidents 

The suicides in Davanagere come in the wake of a recent controversy in Udupi district, where three students were suspended for filming another student in a college washroom. Two college students in Davanagere committed sad suicide, and their deaths have once again brought to light the negative aspects of social media and the urgent need for tougher rules to protect users’ privacy and mental health.
