Karnataka Polls 2023: The Election Commission has released the polling dates for Karnataka and stated that voters above 80 years old may vote from their homes. The polling panel also stated that young people are encouraged to participate in the important elections. On May 10, the state will hold a single round of voting, and on May 13, the results will be announced. The election body has also disclosed the tribal groupings with exceptionally low enrollment rates.
The following are the key points from the press conference for the poll panel:
- In Karnataka, the number of first-time voters increased by 9.17 lakhs from 2018 to 2019. The Karnataka Assembly elections will be open to any young electors who turn 18 before April 1.
- There are 5,21,73,579 registered voters in the 224 Assembly districts of Karnataka. There will be 58,282 polling places set up around the State.
- “To reduce the influence of money on elections, the Karnataka team is being strengthened. 2400 Static Surveillance crews will maintain a close watch.” Rajib Kumar, chief election commissioner, claimed that “171 Interstate check points in 19 districts—which border neighbouring states—were being monitored.”
- There will be around 9.17 lakh first-time voters in the elections.
- There will be 52,282 voting locations overall, of which 50% will offer webcasting services.
- There will be 240 model polling places spread out across the states, 1320 of which will be run by women, and 100 by people with disabilities.
- In an effort to encourage young voters, 224 polling places will be established and run by the youngest polling staff members available.
- Every voting location will have a minimal set of amenities, including a ramp or wheelchair, restrooms, electricity, and water.
- In order to address challenges like urban and youth indifference, the Election Commission of India organised the hackathon Electhon 2023. To date, 746 teams have registered to offer ideas on how to increase the turnout of urban and young voters.
- With a response time of 100 minutes, the cVigil app for grievance redressal and the PwD app for new registration, migration, EPIC details correction, and wheelchair requests. Candidates can file nominations, affidavits, and requests for permission to hold rallies and meetings using the “Suvidha portal” and the “KYC portal,” which allows voters to learn more about the candidates running for office.

BJP will start selecting its candidates for the Assembly elections soon
In the state rocked by controversies during the election year, 150 seats have been established as the goal for both the Congress and the BJP. Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, announced on Monday that the BJP will start selecting its candidates for the Assembly elections soon. He claimed that the BJP’s election platform would this time be a “Praja Pranalike” (people’s manifesto).
