Karnataka: In a horrifying incident near Narayanpura village of Jevargi taluk in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district, a sand mafia operator crushed on duty constable, Maurya by running him over with the truck. The accused, Siddana was illegally transporting sand and when apprehended by constable Maurya, he ran over the cop and crushed him to death. After registration of case against Siddana and his subsequent arrest, the accused has confessed to running over constable when he stopped illegal transport of sand.
Firm action against illegal mining
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has directed police to take strong action against acts of illegal mining of sand. in a statement to ANI Kharge said “I have once again given strict orders to the police department to immediately take legal action against illegal sand mining. An investigation has been ordered into the incident.” Speaking on the issue Kalaburagi SP Isha Pant said “There is a stock of sand there that belongs to a private individual. Some of the sand belongs to PWD as well. The constable was on patrolling to control people who mine sand illegally. In this process, constable Siddanna was crushed to death.”
Contending Law and Order situation
While expressing sorrow over death of head constable, BJP National spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla attacked ruling Congress over law and order situation in state of Karnataka. “Law and order in the state is collapsing thanks to Congress. Head constable in Kalaburagi mowed down by tractor, murdered by illegal sand mafia Law & order in Karnataka is collapsing thanks to Congress which is giving a free run to radicals & mafias for vote bank and corruption purposes & is destroying the law & order there.” said Poonawalla.
Reacting to the shocking incident Karnataka minister Dr MC Sudhakar said, “It is very shocking. We need to take serious action against those behind it. Justice will be served.”
