Katihar News: Sharing the CCTV footage of the July 26 shootout incident, Katihar Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar said the video showed that both the deceased were shot by some unknown person.
Releasing CCTV evidence, Katihar police officials on Friday claimed that the two people killed during protests did not die of police firing.
SP Jitendra Kumar said, on Friday the police had come (to the spot) for investigation. We examined the visuals captured in the CCTV camera. As per the CCTV footage, a youth comes and fires. The gun-wielding man was seen “coming from the direction where the first death occurred.”
According to the Superintendent of Police, the gunman could also be seen firing at two other people and injuring them. One of the two later died. The suspicion of the police turned into confidence from the CCTV footage.
Katihar District Magistrate Ravi Prakash said the authorities have registered two FIRs in the matter
One FIR has been registered by the electricity department and the other by the police, he said. The complaint lodged by the victim Sonu Sahu’s family has been clubbed with both the FIRs.
Ravi Prakash said, both the FIRs have been registered against named and unknown persons. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, he did not reveal the identity of the accused.
He informed that a two-member team comprising Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been constituted to further investigate the incident. No arrest has been made in the case so far.
Two people were killed in firing on Wednesday in Barsoi area of Katihar district. Several others, including policemen and electricity department officials, were also injured. The shooting occurred during a protest demanding better power supply which turned violent.
