Kedarnath Temple: The Uttarakhand Police announced that “action will be taken” against those filming films and reels within the Kedarnath temple a day after the Badri-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) adopted a tough stance about a popular proposal video that was filmed at the sanctuary. The BKTC objected to the proposal video and submitted a letter to the police requesting that they take action against anyone filming on the temple’s property. These videos, according to the commission, “negatively impact the religious sanctity of the place.” Although the BKTC did not particularly refer to the proposal video in its letter, it requested police to maintain a careful watch on anyone filming on the property since it “hurts religious sentiments” of devotees. The Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee had written to police asking them to keep a strict eye on people making videos on the premises as they hurt the sentiments of devotees in the nation and abroad days after a video of a woman proposing to her boyfriend outside Kedarnath temple went viral on social media.
Temple Committee Highlights Social Media Videos Hurting Religious Sentiments
The Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee complained to the police in a letter that “some YouTubers and Instagram Influencers are making videos, YouTube shots, and Instagram reels against the religious sentiments of people, which is hurting the feelings of devotees visiting the temple as well as many around the country and abroad.” The letter said, “Therefore, kindly take stick action against anyone uploading movies, YouTube shots, and Instagram reels against religious sentiments in order to prevent any situation like this from occurring again in the future. According to reports, devotees are now being asked to turn off their cell phones before entering the temple grounds because the recent video of the girl popping the question to her partner went viral. According to insiders, plans will soon be devised to keep cellphones outside the shrine.
