In Kolkata, a woman was arrested on allegation of selling her little daughter to another woman. Rupali Mondal, the mother who is accused, allegedly sold her child for Rs. 4 lakh.
Officials at the Anandapur police station learned about the illicit deal that Rupali, a resident of Kolkata’s Nonadanga Rail colony, had made in place of her daughter, who was still less than a month old.
The mother was then questioned by the police, but according to authorities, she was unable to provide them with any satisfactory responses. As a result, the woman was arrested on Monday morning and later admitted to the crime. Two more people were taken into custody as a result of their confession to the crime: Rupa Das and Swapna Sardar.
On the basis of a complaint from Pratima Bhuinya, Rupali’s next-door neighbour, a case was opened. The accused have been charged with violating the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act’s pertinent provisions 317 (abandoning kid), 370 (purchasing, disposing of person), 372 (selling minor), and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
Both of the accused were interrogated extensively before they pointed to one Kalyani Guha from Midnapur. Guha was detained by Parnarsree police officers, who also removed the infant from the mother’s chamber.
It was found that Kalyani Guha had been married for 15 years without having children. The young girl was saved in safety and will now be given to the childcare facility.
