At Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered dead under strange circumstances in a shocking occurrence. The young doctor was brutally murdered after being sexually abused, according to preliminary post-mortem reports. The state-run hospital’s junior doctors have staged widespread protests in response to this tragic incident, and the BJP has harshly criticised the state’s law and order situation.
One suspect was quickly taken into custody by the Kolkata Police. The culprit, they said, had unrestricted access to several medical departments. CCTV footage was carefully examined before the arrest was made. “We have taken an outsider into custody whose actions appear quite suspicious. He seems to have had a direct hand in this horrifying crime, a police officer told PTI.
The police have also questioned two intern doctors as part of the ongoing inquiry. Unsettling information was uncovered in the four-page autopsy report, which showed that the victim had many injuries and serious trauma.
Disturbing Details Emerge from the Autopsy Report
The amount of the violence committed against the young doctor has been made public by the postmortem report. According to the report, the woman exhibited multiple injury marks on her body and was bleeding from her private parts. According to the report, she suffered injuries to her left leg, face, neck, and belly in addition to a broken neck bone. “She had cuts all over her face, a nail, and gushing from her mouth and eyes. The victim’s intimate areas were also bleeding. She was injured on her lips, left leg, right hand, right hand, ring finger, and belly, according to the report that PTI cited.
A Kolkata Police officer indicated that the crime took place between 3 and 6 am, and it is suspected that the victim was first strangled and then smothered to death. The police are now awaiting the complete autopsy report to help pinpoint the exact culprits.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) Formed
In response to this tragic incident, the Kolkata Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising members of the homicide department to thoroughly investigate the case.
The young doctor’s semi-nude body was discovered on Friday inside the seminar hall of the hospital, raising serious concerns about safety and security within the premises. Her grieving father has alleged that his daughter was raped and murdered within the hospital and expressed fears that there might be efforts to “conceal the truth.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached out to the victim’s parents and assured them that stringent actions would be taken against those responsible.
Calls for Justice and a CBI Probe
The medical students of RG Kar Medical College have held a candlelight march and staged protests outside the hospital, demanding swift justice for the victim. The horrific nature of the crime has also prompted demands for a CBI investigation. Senior BJP leader Agnimitra Paul questioned the timing of the post-mortem, stating, “But the child had injuries… She was killed after being raped. We want a CBI investigation. Why was the post-mortem done in the evening?”
