Lone Survivor Of Shimla Temple Collapse Narrates The Horrifying Incident

In a harrowing account, the lone survivor of the tragic temple collapse caused by a landslide in Shimla shared the horrifying details of his experience. Ram Singh, the survivor, recounted that he was asleep in a house adjacent to the Shiv Bari temple at the time when the calamity unfolded.

“As soon as I woke up, there was a sudden loud noise and just after that something fell on me and I was under the debris. I shouted for help and people came to rescue me,” Singh told news agency ANI.

Singh said,”The money we had was lost during the incident. I requested the state government for additional aid.

“I have injuries in the abdomen region and I need additional help from the government. Whatever money I had saved is lost,” he added

The disaster, which occurred earlier this week, resulted in a devastating landslide that struck the Summer Hill area of Shimla. As per reports, a total of 21 individuals had gone missing in the aftermath, and as of now, the recovery efforts have led to the discovery of 13 bodies. Local councilor Virender Thakur provided insight into the incident, indicating that around 7:30 am, an immense volume of debris cascaded down the hill, leading to the tragic event. The victims, who were visiting the temple to partake in prayers, were caught off-guard by the sudden catastrophe.

Among the victims, a multi-generational family bore the brunt of the mishap. In a heart-wrenching twist, it was revealed that seven members of this family, including three young children, were present inside the Shiv temple when its structure succumbed to the force of the landslide and collapsed.

Himachal Pradesh has been grappling with the relentless onslaught of heavy rainfall during this monsoon season, resulting in a series of rain-related incidents. Regrettably, the state has borne witness to a significant loss of life, with over 60 individuals losing their lives due to landslides, floods, and cloudbursts triggered by the intense rainfall. The Chief Minister of the state, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, disclosed that the cumulative economic damage inflicted by these incidents has been estimated at approximately ₹10,000 crore.
