Lucknow News: The floor of the basement of a building under construction in Lucknow fell, killing a man and a two-month-old baby and injuring 14 workers, Police said on Friday. Around Thursday night at midnight, the incident took place close to Kalindi Park, a police official reported.
Shanty Dwellers Buried Alive as Basement Floor Collapses
“Some labourers who worked at the site used to live in shanties in the basement. As the floor collapsed, the labourers were buried under the rubble in their sleep,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sayed Ali Abbas said. A group of local police officers arrived on the scene as soon as the catastrophe occurred and started searching for survivors with the assistance of the community.
Mukadam and Infant Aishya Among Victims in Tragic Collapse
The event claimed the lives of Mukadam (30), a labour, and the two-month-old baby Aishya, while 14 other injured labourers were carried to the hospital, according to the police officer. Rescue efforts are under way after teams from the fire department and the NDRF arrived at the scene.
