In a bizarre incident in Madhya Pradesh, at least 60 people stormed a police station, freeing three detainees, one of whom was a dacoit. At 3 a.m. on Friday, a mob attacked the police station in Burhanpur district, as well as some police officers. As per an official, the mob carrying sticks entered the Nepanagar police station where they demanded the police to free their associates. When police refused, they vandalised several police vehicles and attacked them. Four officers on duty were injured in the incident who were later referred to a nearby police station.

Hema Meghwal freed by the mob
Three persons were released from the lock-up by the mod, including Hema Meghwal, a dacoit with a reward of Rs 32,000. Two of Meghwal’s pals, Magan Patel and a young man, were also freed in the incident. Superintendent of police in Burhanpur Rahul Kumar Lodha reported that Meghwal was detained a few days ago. Senior officials, including Collector Bhavya Mittal and the police superintendent, flocked to the scene as soon as they learned about the attack. He claimed that the police were looking through Surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators.
Case registered
The police has now registered a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
