Security forces killed two Naxalites in an encounter on Wednesday in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. Three states-Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra had declared a total reward of Rs 43 lakh on these two Naxalites. A senior police officer gave this information.
Inspector General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sajid Farid Shapoo said that the encounter with Naxalites took place in the Supkhar forest area with the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Madhya Pradesh Police’s Hawk Force.
He said that two weapons including an AK-47 were recovered from the slain Maoists.
Shapu said that the police had been receiving information about Naxal activities in Balaghat and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh as well as border areas of Chhattisgarh for the last few days.

The officer said that after getting the information from the informer, the SOG left for the forest for the search operation at around 1 am on Tuesday-Wednesday night.
Shapu said that on Wednesday morning, the Maoists started indiscriminate firing on the Hawk force near a forest post, to which the police retaliated in self-defence.
Firing stopped at around 1:00 am
He said that after the firing stopped at around 1:00 am, the Hawk force searched the area and recovered the bodies of two Naxals, identified as Ganesh Mandavi (35), in-charge of coordination team, MMC zone, and Rajesh (30), commander of Bhoramdeo area committee. He said Ganesh was a resident of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, while Rajesh was a resident of Bastar in Chhattisgarh.
Shapu said that a total reward of Rs 29 lakh was declared on Ganesh in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, while a total reward of Rs 14 lakh was declared on Rajesh in these three states.
He said that Ganesh has 15 criminal cases registered against him in these three states, while Rajesh has 18 cases registered against him in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Earlier, Mandla Superintendent of Police Yashpal Singh Rajput said that between 4 am and 5 am today, Maoists had an encounter with Hawk force in Supkhar area between Moti Nala police station area of Mandla district and Garhi police station area of Balaghat district.
He said that Naxalites had thrown pamphlets in the area two days ago to establish their influence, after which the operation in the area was intensified and during this there was a face-off between the police and the Naxalites.
