The Indian government is gearing up to inaugurate the Light House Project (LHP) in Indore, featuring 1,024 houses as part of the PM Awas Yojna (PMAY), just before announcing the assembly poll dates in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, another LHP is set to be unveiled in Lucknow, boasting 1,040 houses, under the central scheme. Notably, these structures are being constructed using innovative technology to expedite the creation of multi-story complexes.
“Prefabricated sandwich panel system” is being employed
The ongoing work at the Indore LHP, where the “prefabricated sandwich panel system” is being employed, is slated to be completed by the end of this month. This housing complex encompasses eight towers, each comprising eight floors.
Originally introduced as part of the LHP initiative across six cities in January 2021, the initial goal was to complete the projects within a year. However, none of the projects managed to meet this deadline. Presently, only two projects have been successfully finished. The government had extended the deadline for completion until April of this year.
The updated project details indicate that various activities are in progress in the eighth tower
The updated project details indicate that various activities are in progress in the eighth tower. These activities include plumbing and electrical work, lift installation, attaching toilet wall tiles, fixing doors, installing false ceilings, and carrying out painting work.
The technology employed in these projects has been successfully implemented in countries like Japan, Australia, China, various African nations, and Gulf countries. The factory-made prefabricated sandwich panel system is crafted using materials such as cement or calcium silicate boards, cement mortar, expanded polystyrene (EPS), which is a type of white foam plastic material, granule balls. These components collectively form wall panels, effectively replacing traditional brick and mortar construction methods. The panels can serve as both load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls in residential and commercial buildings.
