The Bhojshala complex in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, has a rich history and is currently embroiled in a religious dispute. Hindus regard it as a temple dedicated to Goddess Vagdevi, while Muslims consider it the Kamal Maula Mosque. In order to resolve this dispute, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) initiated a scientific investigation of the premises on March 22nd, 2024, and has recently resumed their work.
A shared space with a divided history
At the moment, a peaceful coexistence exists between Hindus and Muslims, with Hindus performing puja every Tuesday from sunrise to sunset and Muslims offering namaz on Fridays from 1 pm to 3 pm. Nonetheless, the inquiry regarding the initial purpose of the monument persists.
The Hindu Front for Justice is seeking answers
In May 2022, a group called the Hindu Front for Justice approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court. This group was called the Hindu Front for Justice. They requested a scientific investigation to ascertain the “character and nature of the contentious premises.” The ASI survey is a direct outcome of the petition.
The ASI survey seeks to uncover the truth
The Bhojshala complex’s history and construction are examined using scientific approaches by the ASI. It is anticipated that this would clarify its history and purpose, thereby settling the ongoing dispute.
