MP News: In Madhya Pradesh, the ambitious Ayushman Bharat scheme of the Centre has flagged major irregularities, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
Approximately 403 patients who were listed in the database as “dead” received payments worth more than 1.1 crore rupees, according to the pan-India audit.
According to the report, 8,000 people were admitted simultaneously at several hospitals throughout the state. The audit lists 24 state hospitals, one of which was a government hospital and had a far higher occupancy rate than the number of beds it actually had.
For several operations, 25 hospitals submitted claims for 81 people., the audit said. “The Madhya Pradesh health authority paid full amount for both claims as against the prescribed rate of 50% payment on the second claim,” it said.
The National Health Authority (NHA), which authorise the flagship programme, offers beneficiaries a health insurance benefit of 5 lakh per family per year.
More than 23 crore beneficiaries have received Ayushman cards and have had their eligibility for the program’s free medical care verified to date.
Through mandatory Aadhaar-based e-KYC, the Ayushman Bharat scheme uses Aadhaar identity to identify beneficiaries and verify individuals.
5 million hospital admissions have been made under the programme, worth 61,501 crore rupees in free medical care.
