The film ‘Article 370’ features Yami Gautam in the lead role and revolves around the decision to revoke the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir. Released on February 23, the story begins with a secretive officer, Junie Haksar, played by Yami Gautam, who bravely confronts the youth commander of a terrorist organization, Burhan Wani, ultimately leading to a confrontation.
With a budget of Rs. 20 crores, the film has garnered significant earnings at the box office. It depicts the opposition against the decision to revoke Article 370, the subsequent protests, and the government’s efforts to address the situation.
The state was bifurcated into two union territories
It’s notable that the Modi government at the Center abolished Article 370 on August 5, 2019, thereby ending its effects on Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, the state was bifurcated into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh – both under direct central governance.
However, it’s worth mentioning that the film will not be released in Kashmir due to sensitivities surrounding the subject matter. Director Aditya Dhar stated that although they initially planned to release the film in Kashmir, circumstances have changed, and they have opted for limited release locations due to safety concerns, especially for Yami Gautam, who cannot travel extensively with a child.
