Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a historic move to provide a 5% reservation in medical studies for children from government schools, beginning this year. He highlighted the challenges faced by government school students in gaining admission to medical colleges through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and emphasized the importance of this decision in providing them with opportunities.
Two separate lists will be prepared
Chouhan stated that this initiative is the first of its kind in the country and aims to bridge the gap between government and private school students in terms of NEET clearance. Going forward, two separate lists will be prepared: one for government school students and another for those from private schools, ensuring that the former have access to reserved medical seats.
The announcement was made during an event in Jabalpur commemorating the martyrdom day of tribal icons King Shankarshah and Kunwar Raghunath Shah, who played significant roles in the 1857 uprising. Additionally, Chief Minister Chouhan declared the construction of a memorial for tribal queen Durgawati, with the foundation stone ceremony scheduled for October 5, at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore.
