MP News: In a significant boost to medical education in Madhya Pradesh, the state government has announced the opening of five new medical colleges in the regions of Rajgarh, Budhni, Singrauli, Mandla, and Sheopur. Each of these colleges will offer 150 MBBS seats, leading to an overall increase of 750 government medical seats in the state.
In an inclusive move, the government has decided to reserve 5% of the new seats for students who have completed their education in government schools. According to Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Medical Education Rajendra Shukla, these colleges are expected to be operational by the next academic session.
Expansion of Medical Education Facilities
Apart from these five new colleges, three other districts—Mandsaur, Seoni, and Neemuch—have received approval to begin medical courses from the current academic session, with each college initially offering 50 seats. The government is also planning to increase these seat capacities to 100 in the near future, potentially adding over 1,000 new medical seats in total across the state.
Currently, Madhya Pradesh has four government medical colleges and 13 autonomous colleges. With the addition of these new institutions, the state will have 22 medical colleges offering government quota seats.
Recruitment and Infrastructure Development
The state government has already initiated the recruitment process for the newly sanctioned colleges. A total of 448 positions have been filled, including the appointment of Deans for all five colleges. The staffing includes 69 Professors, 146 Associate Professors, and 233 Assistant Professors. This development is a response to long-standing demands for more government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh.
Budget Provisions and Future Plans
The announcement of these new colleges follows the state budget presentation on July 3 by Finance Minister Jagdish Deora, where he outlined the government’s focus on enhancing educational infrastructure. The budget included provisions for the establishment of three new medical colleges and 22 new ITI institutions, with an allocated budget of ₹22,600 crore for education.
The establishment of these new medical colleges is expected to significantly enhance healthcare education in Madhya Pradesh, providing more opportunities for aspiring medical students and contributing to the state’s overall healthcare system.
