Kodajamuniya, a village approximately 180 kilometers from the district headquarters in Raisen, stands near the border of Narsinghpur. The village used to have a school serving up to the eighth grade. However, the school was demolished during the construction of the Bhopal-Jabalpur four-lane highway. The construction company promised to build a new school within six months, but four years have passed, and the school is yet to be constructed. Consequently, children from grades 1 to 8 are compelled to study in a single-room school.
The NH-45 Bhopal-Jabalpur four-lane highway led to the demolition of the school building in Kodajamuniya. The demolition faced resistance from the villagers, resulting in a temporary halt to the construction work. After administrative intervention and the allocation of a new site for the school building, villagers agreed to the demolition under the condition that the new school would be ready within six months. However, four years later, the school building remains unbuilt.
Funds Granted, But School Construction Stalled
Although an approved grant of around ₹82 lakh was earmarked for the construction of the school building, the district panchayat has not yet authorized any agency to commence the construction. If construction does not commence by February, there is a risk of the allocated funds lapsing. The villagers are growing increasingly concerned about the situation. Collector Arvind Dubey has assured that the construction of the school building will be initiated soon.
Students Forced to Leave School
The demolition of the school building not only disrupted the education of the students but also led to several children in nearby areas being forced to travel to Tendukhera and Dewari for schooling. This unintended consequence has imposed an additional burden of extra travel and expenses on parents. The delay in constructing the new school building is now a matter of urgent concern for the community.
