MP News: Tragedy struck as two young lives succumbed to a suspected measles outbreak in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, with 17 more falling victim to the contagious disease. The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of the district, LK Tiwari, confirmed the distressing news, revealing that the fatalities, including a seven-year-old child, occurred on February 14 and 16, respectively. Additionally, seven infected children are currently receiving medical attention at local hospitals.
Immediate Measures Implemented
In response to the alarming situation, authorities have swiftly taken action to contain the spread of the disease. The closure of all government and private schools in the eight affected villages has been ordered by the district collector for a duration of three days, effective from Monday. Furthermore, stringent restrictions have been imposed on gatherings involving children within the affected areas.
Intensive Medical Response
To ascertain the extent of the outbreak and facilitate appropriate medical interventions, samples from the infected children have been collected and dispatched to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal for thorough examination. Additionally, a medical team has been deployed on the ground to mitigate further transmission.
Global Support
In a collaborative effort to combat the outbreak, a team from the World Health Organisation (WHO) is slated to visit the affected villages, providing expertise and support to local health authorities.
Preventive Measures and Vigilance
As a precautionary measure, authorities have initiated a survey of habitations within a 5 km radius of the affected villages to identify potential cases and prevent further spread
