Expected to Reach Kerala by May 31 and Madhya Pradesh by June 15

In Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon is anticipated to arrive on schedule. The onset date for the monsoon in MP is June 15, while in Bhopal, it is officially slated to start on June 18. Monsoon rains could begin anytime between May 28 and June 3, bringing relief from the summer heat. The IMD has forecasted a promising monsoon season, with 104% rainfall expected across the country from June 1 to September 30.

The IMD predicts that the monsoon will advance into Madhya Pradesh by June 15. Subsequently, it will gradually reach Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kashmir by June 25 and cover the entire country by July 8. While some respite from the heat is anticipated in the coming days, complete relief will be experienced only with the monsoon’s arrival.

In southern Bengal, the monsoon typically arrives 8-24 days after its onset in Kerala. The IMD estimates that the monsoon will reach Kolkata around June 10-11, approximately 10 days after reaching Kerala. By May 19, the southwest monsoon had already begun in the Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands. The timely arrival of the monsoon in Kerala is crucial for India’s agricultural economy, influenced by factors like the Indian Ocean Dipole and snow cover.

The IMD’s forecasts bring a wave of anticipation and preparation as various regions brace for the impending monsoon season.
