Raju narrated his story-
“It was the first day in the army camp. In the morning the local police handed me over to the army. Reached the camp in the afternoon. As soon as I went there, an army officer came to me. Without asking anything, he put his hand on my neck and threw me on the ground. I fell so fast that my nose started bleeding. He picked me up by holding my hair and said – tell me for what purpose you have come. I could not understand. Everyone in the army camp came to know me by the name Jasoos. Army men used to say that you have come here, you will speak everything. Here the tongues of good people open. I was beaten up so much in the army camp that I lost consciousness for several days.”
“I don’t understand whether it is day or night. When I regained consciousness, I would find himself in a closed room. When the army men wanted to ask something, they used to drag me to a hall, where they would start beating me with sticks. Where the wound was more, they used to interrogate me repeatedly by hitting me with a stick. Kept me in this camp for two to three months. I could not even move while lying down. He used to dip me in a drum of hot water and immediately take me out and put me in a drum of cold water. Many times it felt that I would not survive anymore. After a few days, it had become a habit to live in pain.”
