Municipal Corruption Scandal in Sagar: Over 870 Unauthorized Toilets Built

In Sagar district of the state’s Urban Administration Development Minister Bhupendra Singh, a case has come to the fore of the officials of the municipal corporation obliging the contractor. In Sagar, in the year 2014, approval was given for the construction of 2000 individual toilets under the Chief Minister’s Sanitation Mission. Against this, the municipal officials along with the contractor made 2871 toilets.

The officers spent Rs 1 crore 18 lakh 45 thousand 600 in addition to the government without rules and approvals. This has been revealed in the report of local fund audit. This disturbance was done between 2014 and 2016. Now, in this matter, a letter has been written to the Commissioner of the Urban Administration Department on behalf of the auditee and has been asked to take recovery action.

M/s Surya Vikas got the work of construction of individual toilets in Sagar Municipal Corporation. For this work, about 19 lakh 66 thousand rupees were deposited as security fund with the municipal corporation of the contractor. Now efforts were started by him to take it back. The officials of Bhopal pressurized the officials of Sagar Municipal Corporation to return the security deposit of the contractor. Corporation started its process. The files were submitted to the residential audit for verification to refund the security deposit for construction of individual toilets. The whole mess was revealed in this.

Loss of 39 lakhs due to not taking contribution

According to the report, the officials of Sagar Municipal Corporation have made many mistakes in the scheme. There was a provision of taking 10 percent contribution from the beneficiary in the scheme, but the officers of the corporation did not take the contribution. At the same time, Rs 13 thousand 600 per individual toilet was paid to the contractor. The government suffered a loss of about Rs 39 lakh due to this. Its files were also kept suppressed for a long time.
