According to a police officer, a young man and girl of different religions were allegedly attacked and heckled by a mob as they exited a hotel in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and two people who rushed to the couple’s aid were stabbed.
Two people from the about 20-person mob have been arrested as a result of the event, whose social media video went viral. The incident happened on Thursday night in the city, he added. India Today was unable to independently confirm the video’s authenticity.
The crowd pursued and encircled the couple as they exited the hotel after eating, interrogating the woman about why she was with a man of a different faith said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Raghuvanshi.
“The woman told them she had come to have dinner with the man after informing her parents. She also objected to their misbehaviour. Meanwhile, two persons who came to the couple’s rescue were injured after they were stabbed with a knife by someone from the crowd,” the Additional DCP said.
Complaint under section 307 of the lPC
According to Kamlesh Sharma, head of the Tukoganj police station, a complaint has been filed under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to kill), and seven accused have been named so far.
According to Sharma, attempts are being made to identify and arrest the other 20 or so members of the crowd. Two of the accused, who are in the 23–26 age range, have already been arrested.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of MP, commanded police to punish individuals responsible for the couple’s harassment severely.
