The opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday alleged large-scale irregularities in the recruitment of patwaris (employees of the revenue department) in the state, saying seven of the top 10 selected candidates appeared at the same examination centre. It is being claimed that the examination center is a college run by an MLA of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Referring to the recruitment and admission scam that came to light in the state ten years ago, former Union minister and Congress leader Arun Yadav termed it as another ‘Vyapam’ scam while state Home Minister Narottam Mishra denied the allegations of irregularities.
The examination for the posts of Patwari was conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Staff Selection Board (formerly known as Professional Examination Board or Vyapam).
Speaking to reporters at the state Congress headquarters, Yadav alleged that only BJP-backed candidates were recruited.
The Congress leader claimed that out of the 10 selected candidates, eight are from Gwalior-Chambal division and seven of them from just one exam center – NRI College of Engineering and Management, Gwalior.
He said that the owner of this college is a BJP MLA
The former Union minister said that most of the top-ranking candidates had signed answer sheets in Hindi, but they scored good marks in English, raising doubts whether someone else had taken the exam for them instead of the genuine candidates.
Yadav said that a candidate got full marks despite writing a wrong answer.
On the other hand, Home Minister and state government spokesperson Mishra denied any irregularities in the recruitment examination.
Mishra told reporters in the assembly premises that the board had conducted the examination on April 26 and the results were declared in May and June and the Congress is now raising the issue when the monsoon session of the state assembly is underway.
The minister said that keeping in mind the assembly elections to be held at the end of the year, Congress leaders are raising such issues.
He said that the video related to the urination incident in Sidhi is three years old, but it was “now made viral”.
Mishra said that not seven, but 114 candidates passed the exam from the center mentioned by the Congress.
