The High Court has slammed the Madhya Pradesh government for not presenting the draft law to control online gambling in the High Court and not informing the date of keeping it for consideration in the Legislative Assembly.
Commenting strongly on the poor attitude of the state government, the single bench of Justice Vivek Agrawal has given instructions to present the draft within 7 days.
The government had earlier kept this aspect in the court
The High Court has said that during the last hearing, it was told by the government advocate that the committee of senior secretaries of the state is considering making a law to control online gambling. Along with this, it was also said by the advocate that it will take 3 months to prepare the law. After which it will be sent for approval in the assembly. But, this has not happened yet.
A single bench of Justice Vivek Aggarwal has directed the Principal Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary Home Department to present the draft prepared by the committee within 7 days and the bill for online gambling will be put up for debate and voting in the assembly.
Officers will have to give personal spot
The court made a strong remark that if the affidavit is not presented by the officers till the next hearing, court orders will be issued to the officers for personal appearance. Not only this, the High Court also quashed the order of the state government through which a demand was made to withdraw the earlier order of giving a time limit of three months. However, now the online gambling case will be heard on March 21.
