PM Modi pitches for UCC at Bhopal event, talks about discrimination against Muslim women

PM advocated for implementation of UCC and spoke about discrimination against Muslim women and Pasmanda Muslims.

PM Modi: After inaugurating routes for 5 New Vande Bharat trains in Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi addressed a booth of BJP workers where he spke about necessity of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at length. He talked about how different rules should not be applied to members of the same family and also hit out at opposition for agitating against implementation of UCC. Modi stated that Muslim women are being discriminated against and opposition is misleading Indian Muslims for electoral gains.

“I feel we should study this subject. I feel those who support triple talaq are doing vote bank politics of appeasement. They are doing injustice to our Muslim daughters. Triple talaq does not only affect Muslim daughters. Imagine the situation of the family who marries off their daughter and she comes back after 10 years. Triple talaq damages the entire family,” PM Modi said.

Attacking supporters of Triple Talaq Bill, PM Modi said. If this was an important aspect of Islam, then why is it not there in Pakistan, Indonesia, Qatar, Jordon, Syria and Bangladesh?” He also stated that Egypt had banned the practice 80-90 years ago and even now some people in this country want to discriminate against Muslim women by means of Triple talaq.

Pasmanda Muslims are being discriminated against

The BJP machinery has been actively making headways in reaching out to Pasmanda Muslims. Pasmanda Muslims represent Dalit and backward-cast Muslims, forming a major chunk of the community. During his address PM Modi batted for the cause of the Pasmanda Muslims and spoke against generations long discrimination against them.

“The lives of our Pasmanda Muslim brothers and sisters have been made hellish by those who do vote bank politics. They live a life of struggle. No one listens to them. They have been discriminated against so much, but there has been no debate on this. Even today, Pasmanda Muslims are not given an equal share. They are thought of as untouchables,” Modi said.

PM Modi reiterated that BJP works on the ideology of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ and made a claim that when party booth workers will approach Muslims for upcoming , all their grievances will be heard and all of their misunderstandings will be cleared.

Firm stand on UCC

Speaking about UCC, PM Modi said that opposition is destroying lives of people by incting them against the legislation. Modi said, “India’s Muslim brothers and sisters should understand which political parties are trying to incite them and trying to profit by destroying them. In the name of the Uniform Civil Code, they are trying to incite them.”

Modi also reminded that Supreme Court is also pushing for implementation of Common Civil Code before stating that there cant’s be two sets of Personal Law. PM Modi said “Will a family function if there are two different sets of rules for people? Then how will a country run? Our Constitution too guarantees equal rights to all people. Even the Supreme Court is pushing for common civil code. But these vote-hungry people are misleading,”

Praising BJP party workers in Madhya Pradesh ahead of polls, PM said that serving people should be the mantra of booth-level politics. BJP is not a party of people issuing orders from air-conditioned rooms but rather is made of members who work on the ground. PM further added that BJP workers always put well being of country before the party.
