Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Indore from Jan 8

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or NRI Day is formally celebrated on 9 January 1915 as the return of Mahatma Gandhi to Mumbai from South Africa. During the Pravasi Bharatiya Sammelan, the Indians living abroad (Non Resident Indian community) are honored. Pravasi Bharatiya Samman is given to those who advance Indian culture, economic and traditional pride.

Started during Atal ji’s tenure

Celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in independent India started in the year 2003 during the tenure of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This time the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is formally starting on 8th January, which will be organized till 10th January 2023. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is being celebrated this time in the city of Madhya Pradesh, Indore. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Samman ceremony will also be held on January 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will honor NRIs who have made special contributions. All organizations including the Ministry of External Affairs, FICCI, CII, Ministry of Development of North Eastern States participate in it.

The theme of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Theme this time has been “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal”. It is related to the contribution of overseas Indians in the development of the country. New Year is celebrated every year with a new theme (New Year 2023).

Importance of NRI (NRI DAY OR OCI)

Talking about the importance of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Significance), it is time to remember the contribution of those Indians settled abroad, who have not yet forgotten the roots of their country. Still, despite being NRIs (overseas Indians), they contribute to the development of India.

Pravasi Bharatiya event venue in Indore

The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is being celebrated in the beautiful city of Indore, MP. Mohammad Irfan Ali will be the chief guest of the ceremony this year. 27 celebrities have been selected for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards. It includes academicians from Bhutan, doctors from Brunei, civil society activists from Ethiopia. The committee headed by External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar has selected these foreign personalities.
