Shivraj Singh Chouhan: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took oath as a Union Minister on Sunday, marking his induction into the Modi government 3.0. This significant appointment comes after Chouhan’s repeated denials of the Chief Minister’s post over the last year, proving wrong his detractors who claimed he was being sidelined.

Chouhan, a veteran BJP leader, secured a landslide victory in the Vidisha Lok Sabha seat for the sixth time, winning by a record margin of 8.21 lakh votes. This victory underscores his enduring popularity and political acumen.

Known affectionately as “mama” (maternal uncle) and “paon-paon wale bhaiya” (foot soldier), Chouhan has cultivated a strong “son of the soil” image, closely aligning himself with the socio-economic concerns of farmers, villagers, women, and children across Madhya Pradesh. His efforts in these areas have solidified his reputation and garnered significant support.

On Sunday, Chouhan’s political career reached a new milestone as he joined the Union Cabinet for the first time. Born on March 5, 1959, in a farming family in Jait village, Sehore district, Chouhan’s political journey began with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the young age of 13. His leadership skills were first recognized when he was elected president of the Model Higher Secondary School students’ union in 1975.
