As the Madhya Pradesh assembly election approaches in just three months, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is gearing up to bolster his cabinet on Thursday in a strategic move to quell internal discord within the party.
As part of this anticipated cabinet expansion, three new ministers are expected to be inducted into the state cabinet
Currently, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet comprises 30 ministers, with four positions yet to be filled. It is speculated that Gauri Shankar Bisen, who serves as the Chairman of the MP Backward Commission, and Rajendra Shukla, the MLA from Riwa, are among the prospective new appointees.
These incoming ministers will have a relatively short window of around six weeks to function before the formal announcement of election dates triggers the enforcement of the model code of conduct.
Despite previous appeals for a cabinet expansion, the state government had previously chosen to overlook these requests, as confirmed by insiders.
In discussions led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, concerns were raised regarding discontent among certain senior party members who felt sidelined from cabinet involvement, as per insider sources.
Drawing lessons from past experiences, notably in Karnataka where the BJP faced defeat, the party had resisted similar pressures to expand the cabinet following requests from some leaders in anticipation of assembly elections.
