Will ‘Bulldozer Baba’ image for Shivraj Singh Chouhan work wonders in Madhya Pradesh?

Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Shivraj Singh Chouhan: Contrary to CM Chouhan’s announcement that all unauthorized colonies built till December 31, 2022 will be legalized, events of June 14 saw Madhya Pradesh government order demolition of an under-construction second-floor slab of the Ganga Jamna in Damoh district. Both of these are politically motivated as decision to legalize unauthorized settlements was made to garner votes while targeting a school run by members from Muslim community was aimed to polarize votes. While the District Education Officer(DEO) has given clean chit to school on the hijab issue. The education minister of Madhya Pradesh has also stated that DEO always attempted to save the school ,and the report produced by him clearly shows that the school was not trying to enforce wearing of Hijab.

From ‘Mama’ to ‘Bulldozer Mama’

Shivraj Singh Chauhan who has ruled the state of Madhya Pradesh for nearly two decades earned the appellation ‘Mama’ due to his social welfare schemes. The inventive schemes include ‘Ladli Laxmi Yojna’ aimed at upliftment of girl child. It was eventually constituted by Central government in their ‘Beti bachao beti padho’ yojana. He also introduced ‘Teerth Darshan Yojana’, which was hailed across communities. After BJP’s roaring comeback in 2020, Shivraj Singh Chauhan has tried to project, a ‘Bulldozer Mama’ image in lines with Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Bulldozer Baba’, showcasing stringent commitment to law and order through use of earthmover machines. According to some political experts, his stint as Bulldozer Mama has not materialized much in terms of political gain.

A case of ‘Kiosk’

Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s bulldozer has many a times lost its way and targeted innocent people. CM Shivraj might approve of his new image as in March 2022, he celebrated two years in office as chief minister by a welcome of neatly arranged line of bulldozers with ‘Bulldozer Mama’ painted on them. This makeover of goon and anti-social elements crushing has not yielded positive result. In Khargone on April 11, 2022, Wasim Ahmed Shekh’s kiosk was crushed by bulldozer for allegedly pelting stones at the police and at a Ram Navami procession. The government soon realized its mistake and promised to compensate Sheikh but he still has not received any compensation.
