Maharashtra Accident: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has rejected any doubts over inferior quality of roads being responsible for a bus accident on the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway . The accident occurred in Buldhana district on early hours of Saturday and claimed the lives of 26 of 33 people riding on the bus.
During a press briefing Deputy CM Fadnavis stated that raising questions over quality of Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway is an example of arriving at uninformed and premature conclusion.
Not right to blame construction quality
“It’s not right to speak on the construction quality of the expressway,” said Deputy CM Fadnavis stated during the press briefing.
The bus was travelling from Yavatmal to Pune and was carrying 33 passengers. Twenty six people who were onboard were killed while seven people have survived after the fateful incident.
Deputy CM Fadnavis further added “Twenty-six people died while seven survived in the accident. We need to do DNA testing to recognise the body. We have ordered an investigation into the incident. It could be human error or tyre burst too, can’t say anything now.”
He also stated that government is taking steps to avoid such incidents from occurring in the future
Compensation to victims
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde has expressed his grief over the accident on Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victims of Buldhana bus accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his grief over the tragic bus accident in Buldhana. Rs 2 lakh will be granted to the victims of the accident under Center’s Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
An inquiry into the incident has been ordered by CM Eknath Shinde. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has stated that DNA testing will be required in order to identify some of the victims that have died in the accident.
