NCP: Maharashtra’s new Deputy CM and NCP leader Ajit Pawar is all set to inaugurate a new party office opposite Mantralaya In Mumbai. The move comes 2 days after swearing in ceremony of Ajit Pawar and 8 of NCP ministers who joined the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra government. Ajit Pawar has already proclaimed right over the NCP name and symbol with support of 40 MLAs behind him. Sharad Pawar currently controls the party headquarters in the Ballard Estate Area.
Fight for the name and symbol
The move to set up a new party office gives a clear indication of Ajit Pawar’s resolve to fight fir the name of the party and symbol. The ongoing crisis is resonating with what transpired between Uddhav and Eknath factions of the Shiv-Sena party.
Meanwhile Sharad Pawar’s faction has filed a disqualification petition against nine MLAs who joined the Maharashtra government on Sunday. Ajit Pawar has dismissed the validity of disqualification petition issued against him and 8 other MLAs. “Law will decide if we have rebelled. Only the Election Commission of India will decide to whom the party belongs,” Ajit Pawar said in a press conference.
Ajit Pawar has repeatedly claimed that he has joined Maharashtrian government as representative of the whole NCP party not just a faction.
Sharad Pawar leads the charge
On Monday, Sharad Pawar sacked the working president Praful Patel and general secretary and treasurer Sunil Tatkare. Both the leaders sided with Ajit Pawar and joined the Maharashtran government. Sharad Pawar has said he would build the NCP from scratch after what happened on Sunday.
On the other hand, Ajit Pawar has appointed Tatkare as the Maharashtra NCP president in place of Jayant Patil. He has also asked for the disqualification of Jayant Patil and Jitendra Awhad as memebrs of the house from Maharashtra Assembly Speaker. Meawhile Praful Patel has procalimed Ajit Pawar as leader of the NCP legislature party.
Amidst all this tussle over number of MLAs supporting which if the either factions, Ajit Pawar has called a meeting of all legislators and party functionaries.
