Maharashtra Budget 2023: Devendra Fadnavis, the state’s deputy chief minister and finance minister for Maharashtra, presented the first budget to the state Assembly for the 2023–2024 financial year on Thursday.
At 2:00 pm, Fadnavis began reading the state legislature’s Lower House’s fiscal allocations. Instead of using an old paper document, he read the budgetary provisions out from an iPad.
Given that he is in charge of the finance, Fadnavis is delivering the state budget for the first time. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sudhir Mungantiwar served as finance minister from 2014 to 2019 while Fadnavis was the state’s chief minister.

In June 2022, the Shinde-led government was formed, which is founder by the BJP and his Shiv Sena group. Fadnavis stated during the budget presentation that the government’s health insurance scheme, the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya scheme, has expanded its coverage from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and that the outlay for farmers has been increased by Rs 6,900 crore.
Deepak Kesarkar, the state’s minister of school instruction, read the budget proposals to the Legislative Council.
Here are the big announcements made in the Maharashtra Budget 2023 so far
As per the PM Kisan Yojana, the Maharashtra government has given a 6000 rupee yearly cash benefit for 1.15 crore farmers. The annual cost of the system will be covered by the state at 6900 crore.
Farmers in 14 suicidal hit districts will get a yearly cash reward of 1800 instead of grains supplied by PDS.
To evaluate the damage caused by natural calamities such unseasonal rains and others, the e-pachnama will be carried out with the use of a drone and a satellite. The state government has announced that fisherman will have insurance coverage worth 5 lakh.
A fourth comprehensive women’s policy was unveiled by Fadnavis. In accordance with this scheme, girls from BPL families will receive 75,000 rupees per year until they turn 18; Fadnavis also announced a 50 percent discount for ladies using state transport throughout the state.
The Led-Ladki scheme, that will offer incentives to holders of yellow and orange rations for education, is announced by the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra.
In the state, 50 additional hostels will be opened for working women. The deputy CM announced an increase in anganwadi employees’ pay from 8,300 to 10,000. Anganwadi helpers will receive $5500 instead of the current $4425 each month.
Under the Mahatma Phule Jivandayee Yojana, the amount of medical insurance provided to BPL families has raised from 1.5 lakh to 5 lakh rupees. Also, a patient will be eligible for free care up to Rs. 5 lakh through the Mahatma Phule Janarogya Yojana. The previous treatment cap was set at 1.5 lakh.
With the help of Rs 12,000 crore, 10 lakh new houses will be built over the course of the next three years as part of the Modi Awas Yojana. In 2023–2024, three lakh of them will be built. In Maharashtra, a welfare board for taxi and autorickshaw drivers would be established.
On a 1,000 acre site in Nagpur, the state government will build a logistics hub.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s 337 km metro network will have 46 km of operating metro lines. This year, 50 kilometres of lines will be active.
