In a startling development, a prominent political figure from Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar, has reportedly received a threat. As per Supriya Sule, Pawar’s daughter and a senior member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), her father has been sent a threatening message. Reacting to this alarming revelation, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has guaranteed to prioritise the veteran politician’s safety.
Shinde has not only addressed the issue with senior police officials but has also instructed an immediate investigation. He took to social media to assert in Marathi, “Sharad Pawar commands deep respect; his safety is of utmost concern. The police have been given directives to enhance security measures if deemed necessary.”
Heightened Security and Friction in Maharashtra
Over the past several days, Shinde has perceived what he calls a “conscious effort” to spoil the peace in Maharashtra. He perceives a determined move towards igniting religious tension by glorifying historical figures like Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan. But he firmly asserts that such attempts to destabilize the state’s harmony for political mileage will be resisted effectively.
Shinde’s affirmation comes in the wake of Supriya Sule’s plea for intervention from both the state government and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She expressed her concern that Pawar received the threat via a website.
