Manish Sisodia: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Manish Sisodia, calling it a “victory of truth,” and expressed hope that other party leaders currently in jail will also receive justice.
The Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia on Friday in the corruption and money laundering cases related to the alleged scam in the Delhi excise policy, stating that he had been in custody for 17 months.
A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan noted that Sisodia had been in custody for 17 months, and the trial had yet to commence, thereby depriving him of his right to a speedy trial.
AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha expressed his gratitude on the social media platform X, saying, “There is joy across the nation today as the hero of Delhi’s education revolution, Manish Sisodia, has been granted bail. I sincerely thank the honorable Supreme Court.”
Chadha added, “Manish ji was kept behind bars for 530 days. His crime was that he gave a better future to the children of the underprivileged. Dear children, your Manish Uncle is coming back.”
AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh described Sisodia’s bail as a “victory of truth,” saying, “After 17 months of waiting, we have achieved a significant victory. But today, I want to ask the Prime Minister of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party, how long will this politics of malice continue?”
Singh further stated, “This is a strong slap in the face of the central government’s dictatorship
Singh further stated, “This is a strong slap in the face of the central government’s dictatorship. You kept a person in jail for 17 months who was working to provide good education to millions of children in Delhi.”
He questioned, “Who will account for these 17 months? Who will compensate for the mental and physical torture that Manish Sisodia and his family endured during these 17 months?”
Singh concluded by saying, “Sisodia’s bail is fantastic news for the party and the country’s democracy. Our Constitution and our judicial system are alive, and this has made it possible.”
Delhi’s Education Minister, Atishi, posted on X, saying, “Satyamev Jayate.”
Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, for alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy 2021-22. The policy was later scrapped.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him on March 9, 2023, in connection with a money laundering case linked to the CBI’s FIR.
Sisodia resigned from the Delhi Cabinet on February 28, 2023. He also held the portfolio of the Education Ministry.
While requesting bail, Sisodia argued that he had been in custody for 17 months, and the trial against him had not yet begun.
