CM Bhagwant Mann: Paddy sowing will take place in the state this year in four phases beginning on June 10, according to an announcement made on Monday by the chief minister Bhagwant Mann. The government is completely prepared to provide a smooth and trouble-free sowing of paddy crop during the upcoming Kharif season across the state, according to Mann, who claimed that the decision was made in accordance with the proposals made by the farmers during the two kisan-sarkar milni (government-farmers meetings). ‘Paddy sowing will start in various regions of the state on June 10, 16, 19, and 21,’ he announced in a statement. “The state has been divided into four zones.”

Giving specifics on the sowing schedule, the chief minister stated that the first stage of transplantation in the areas beyond the fence across the international border will begin on June 10 in order to provide seamless irrigation for paddy production in a staggered manner. In the second phase, he promised, seven districts—Ferozepur, Faridkot, Pathankot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, SBS Nagar, and Tarn Taran—would receive uninterrupted power starting on June 16. Paddy transplantation will begin in the remaining nine districts of Patiala, Jalandhar, Moga, Muktsar Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Barnala, and Mansa on June 21. In the third phase, paddy transplantation will be guaranteed beginning on June 19 in Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Fazilka, Bathinda, and Amritsar.

Punjab promotes DSR technique for water conservation and cost savings in paddy cultivation

According to Mann, the state administration has issued a notification stating that the power supply for the DSR technique would begin on May 20 across the state in an effort to conserve groundwater. Direct seeded rice (DSR) is a technique for starting a rice crop that uses seeds planted directly in the ground as opposed to seedlings that have been transplanted from a nursery. on order to save groundwater up to 15-20% and up to ₹3,000 per acre on input expenditures, including labour, he encouraged farmers to forgo planting the PUSA variety of paddy in favour of the more financially advantageous DSR approach. Mann reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to provide the farmers with uninterrupted power during the paddy season, saying that a minimum of eight hours of consistent power supply will be secured by all means. Chief Minister emphasizes proper timing, power and availability

Additionally, he urged the farmers not to plant paddy before these dates. According to the chief minister, farmers would have access to four hours of power every day for regular irrigation needs, such as planting vegetables and paddy in nurseries. He added that the farmers must use the PAU-recommended PR types of paddy in order to qualify for the state government’s ₹1500 per acre incentive programme for those choosing the DSR technique.
