Sanjauli Mosque: A large-scale protest against the suspected illegal building of the Sanjauli Mosque took place in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, on Thursday. Outrage Erupts in Shimla Over Mosque Construction

This unrest had already been brewing over the weekend, with several demonstrators took to the streets on Sunday. Their worries extended beyond the mosque and included a recent assault on a merchant in Shimla’s Malyana area.
Government’s Stance on Immigration and Mosque Construction
Minister for Himachal Pradesh Anirudh Singh addressed the demonstrations by emphasising the state’s Muslim community’s long history of peaceful coexistence. While acknowledging worries about the recent wave of immigrants from other states, he emphasised that effective immigration verification is the primary priority, regardless of the immigrant’s religion.
Singh underscored that the focus should be on legal versus illegal construction rather than religious differences. He advocated for thorough background checks on individuals arriving in Himachal Pradesh to ensure security.
