Gurugram News: Near the wee hours of Monday, some unidentified people set fire to a mazar at a village near Gurugram, according to police. Caretaker Ghasite Ram, a native of the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, submitted a complaint claiming that everything was normal at the mazar in the Khandsa village when he departed for home in the Feroz Gandhi Colony at 8:30 pm on Sunday. “Around 01.30 am, I received a phone call from somebody living near the mazar that it has been set afire by some unknown people,” he said in a complaint filed at the Sector 37 police station.
Caretaker’s Quick Response Halts Mazar Blaze
He claimed that with the aid of people, the fire was put out. “But when I went there and saw, offerings kept inside the door of the mazar were burnt down. What I have come to know is that a group of 5-6 young boys gathered there and set the mazar on fire,” he said in the FIR. He claimed that this has damaged peoples’ faith and “can lead to riots in society.” “Action should be taken against the accused,” he commanded. In the roughly seven years Ram has worked at the mazar, he claims to have witnessed “people of all religions offering their respect there.” “This is a decades-old Mazar of peer baba and all villagers worship here. It might be some outsiders who set the mazar on fire,” he told PTI on Monday morning.
Gurugram Takes Precautionary Measures Following Nearby Disturbances
Section 144 has been implemented in Gurugram as a result of last week’s racial unrest that started in the nearby Nuh district and expanded to some areas of Gurugram. According to police, the FIR was filed against unidentified individuals in violation of IPC sections 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house), 188 (disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). A senior police official stated that they are attempting to locate and apprehend the accused. Additionally, according to the police, a restaurant (dhaba) close to the village of Rathiwas was set on fire on Saturday night, and a FIR was immediately filed at the police station in Bilaspur. In the meantime, the Gurugram Police reported that it had detained 15 suspects in Sohna on Sunday night and that a local court had ordered them to be held in judicial custody.
