The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has rolled out a budget of Rs 34 crore to the engineering department to enhance the infrastructure at the hospitals, polyclinics, and primary healthcare units. The development will take place in the current financial year, as per MCD sources.
MCD to boost infrastructure
In an attempt to strengthen the infrastructure of hospitals, MCD has assigned a budget of Rs 54 crore to the engineering department. “Funds for various schemes have also been assigned to the zonal offices for carrying out work that has been pending for a long time at primary healthcare units,” an official said.
New schemes on Cards
The MCD official said that the civic body has 400 schemes on cards which will be brought into practice for the holistic development of the national capital. “In some cases, administrative approval has been granted and the tender allocated. We expect the work to start soon,” he said.
The new projects include revamping the existing toilet blocks, drainage and water supply system. “There is also a plan to improve the Hindu Rao Hospital and electrical installation of the OPD and ward block,” the civic body said.
At Swami Dayanand Hospital, the emergency operation theatre, old ICU and the casualty block will be repaired. “There has been a demand for changing the sewer lines at the hospital and improving the dilapidated OT and using it for casualty/emergency purposes,” MCD said.
“There are also plans to construct a toilet for the elderly and persons with disabilities and repair the maternity and child welfare centre at Nangloi,” the official added.
The MCD has also been planning an upgrade for Swami Dayanand Hospital’s radiology department with replacement in medical equipment including dialysis machine, ventilators, monitors, and defibrillators. The civic body has also sanctioned a budget of Rs 63.4 crore for the purchase and maintenance of these equipment.
