MCD Property Tax: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a 10 percent discount to those who deposit their property tax in Delhi before June 30. The MCD has been sending notices to the defaulters to deposit the property tax for the last 3-4 months. With a stern warning, the civic vody has emphasized to take a tough stand from July 1 against defaulters who fail to deposit their property taxes. MCD has said that people will get a 10 percent discount on paying property tax for 2023-24 before June 30. MCD has also allowed people to deposit their property tax online digitally. 

MCD to take action against the property tax defaulters

Action against owners of commercial properties has intensified in Delhi for the last few months. The civic body has been sending notices to farmhouse and marriage hall owners in East Delhi, Outer Delhi and South Delhi for submission of property tax. The property tax of hundreds of commercial properties in the capital has not been deposited for the last three to four years, with crores of the amount pending. On depositing the property tax till 31 March 2023, the exemption was received from the corporation. However, some owners yet to pay the tax for their commercial properties.

Increase in property tax

With an aim to bring a significant change in the system, the Fifth Municipal Valuation Committee had recommended an increase in the six factors used to calculate the annual value of the property. The committee had submitted its interim report to the MCD. If these recommendations are implemented, it could lead to further increase in property tax across the city.
