MCD focused on repairing open gyms in Delhi, say officials

Open Delhi Gym

Around 1,200 or so open gyms in city parks that needed repairs have been put out to bid by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). As of now, the MCD region has 1,775 open gyms. Of them, 550 are in the north region, 1,100 are in south Delhi, and the rest are mostly located in east Delhi.

Upkeep of open gyms

An official stated that the deal to upgrade open gyms in north Delhi was finalized a few months ago, but the process was still ongoing for south and east Delhi.

“While this will be the third time we allocate a tender for maintenance of open gyms in south Delhi, maintenance responsibilities were never assigned before for the open gyms in parks in east Delhi. In accordance with the terms of the contract, the agency installed the gym equipment and performed maintenance for a year. The bidding for all open gyms in south and east Delhi has now been floated, the official said.

Work in progress

The official also added that the issues currently faced by residents will be resolved in 15 days with ground-level repairs and maintenance work already in full swing. The MCD official said that civic unity has facilitated the maintenance work which was put on hold for quite some time now.

Currently, 342 DDA parks and 1,775 MCD parks in Delhi offer an open gym facility. Every unit typically cost Rs 7-8 lakh to produce and is supported by the budget provided by MP/MLALAD..

Almost every park in the neighbourhood has an outdoor gym, and swings for kids are constructed with local representative funding even if there isn’t enough room to walk around comfortably.

Lapses to be addressed

The MCD representative addressed the concerns and assured the locals that an upgrade will put in place soon despite it being a difficult task.

“The lapses are generally happening for some reasons, and we are directing maintenance agencies to act on complaints on a priority,” the official said.
