MCD news: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has deemed 57 dilapidated buildings as risky during a recent examination of all 12 zones amid the ongoing monsoon season. Of the 57 faulty infrastructures, the MCD’s maintenance division recognised 41 of them, while the remaining 16 were recognised by the building division.
Keshavpuram zone at high risk
One of the riskiest zones has been Keshavpuram Zone where 30 buildings have been identified as dangerous. The Rohini zone includes 12 dangerous structures, the West Zone six, the Civil Line and Narela Zones three each. Meanwhile, 30,74,051 dwellings were evaluated across the 12 zones of the local body, according to a survey report released on Monday.
Renovation of buildings in works
The MCD also found 292 structures that need restoration, with 159 of those structures being found in the Rohini Zone alone. As of July 6, the civic organisation has renovated 46 of the 292 buildings.
MCD keeping close vigil
According to a statement on Monday, the civic body has instructed engineering workers to keep an eye on buildings and structures in their respective zones amid the ongoing monsoon season in the national capital.
The residents who lived close to Rangmahal and the Chandni Chowk tyre market were also evacuated by the MCD’s engineering division.
“This is due to a landslip at an ongoing construction site of Novalty Street Mall at SPM Marg. During the survey of the property, it was discovered that there is an apprehension of the building becoming an eminent danger for adjoining areas of the Novalty Street site,” said the MCD in a notice issued to Rangmahal and Tyre Market shopkeepers.
