Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Shelly Oberoi and Aaley Iqbal Mohammad were elected as mayor and deputy mayor respectively after BJP opted out of elections. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to share congratulatory wishes to both.
“Congratulations Shelly and Aaley on again becoming mayor and deputy mayor, this time unopposed. Best wishes to both. People have huge expectations from us. Work hard to meet their expectations,” he said in a tweet.
Dedicated to bringing civic facilities: Mayor Shelly Oberoi
Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi said that she will work with dedication to bring civic facilities at par with those at the hospitals, schools, and other services of the Delhi government.
Meanwhile, deputy mayor Iqbal Aaley also echoed similar sentiments and said, “While some of the promises made before elections under the 10 guarantees by AAP government in MCD have already been fulfilled, we will ensure that the rest are implemented in the coming year,” deputy mayor Aaley said.
Shelly Oberoi attacks BJP
The Delhi mayor also took a dig a the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over withdrawing from the mayor elections.
“They (BJP) failed in getting our councilors on their side. Leave councilors and MLAs aside, they could not even buy a single worker of AAP. They anyway knew they didn’t have any numbers. They tried for 2-3 days, but finally accepted their failure today,” Shelly Oberoi said.
