The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will form a response team on the ward level to address water logging concerns in view of the upcoming monsoon season in addition to the formation of zonal control rooms. These rooms will be operational from June 15.
MCD’s monsoon preparations in full swing
The MCD is also making 465 mobile pumps and 74 permanent pumps active to deal with the server water logging conditions in the national capital during the monsoon season.
“The teams at the ward level will be formed to attend to complaints of areas in each ward on priority without causing any delay or inconvenience to commuters. Each team will have a junior engineer as an in-charge and other staff. In one shift, at least five persons at the junior engineer (store) office remain stationed for any situation, and simultaneously to deal with water logging during monsoon,”
MCD conducts survey of dangerous buildings
The MCD has also started a survey of dangerous buildings in the city before the onset of the monsoon. In nearly 5 lakh properties surveys so far, the MCD has labeled six in a “dangerous” state and 81 that require immediate repair.
“From May 5-11, six buildings/structures have been identified as dangerous. These include two in the west zone, one in Shahdara (South), one in Shahdara (North), and two in Civi lines. Besides, 81 houses/buildings were found to be needing repairs. While notices were served to all of them for taking necessary steps to avoid MCD’s action, 18 owners have got their properties repaired, as per a report compiled till May 11,” an MCD official said.
MCD has also issued a circular that states detailed guidelines for surveying all municipal schools, offices, dispensaries, and hospitals before the onset of the monsoon.
