The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has identified space near ‘Marghat Wale Baba’ Temple at Kashmere Gate to construct a parking space lot for two and four-wheelers. The decision has been taken after identifying traffic jams caused due to visitors’ vehicles. Apart from visitors, nearby shopkeepers will also be allowed to park their vehicles at the designated space.
Locals welcome MCD’s decision
The locals welcomed MCD’s decision and said that the lot was necessary. They added that people often park across a nearby flyover which leads to heavy traffic in the area.
The MCD said it plans to issue the tender for the project in the coming days. The surface-level parking lot is expected to accommodate 477 two-wheelers and 32 four-wheelers. The MCD will later expand the four-wheelers area into a stacked parking lot.
The temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman records the most footfall on Tuesdays and Saturdays. On these days, authorities often have to tow vehicles in view of the congestion in the area. The upcoming parking lot is expected to ease this situation faced by locals and devotees.
MCD’s constant efforts to make parking accessible
It is yet to be known if the parking fees will be subsided by the MCD itself. Considering the area is a place of worship, MCD could slash the parking fee.
The new lot is in addition to MCD’s continuous efforts to make parking more accessible in the city. One of the parking lots constructed at Chandni Chowk will be functional by July 31. Meanwhile, a similar parking lot constructed at Nigam Bodh Ghat will be functional shortly, too, the official said.
