MCD to undertake dog census in Delhi after 14 years

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)  is underlying a plan to take a citywide survey to assess the census of community street dogs in the National Capital. The civic body aims to sterilize community dogs after a census is conducted.

The civic body is not aware of the canine population as the last survey of community dogs was carried out in 2009. Fourteen years ago, their number was found to be 560,000. Since then, the population is expected to have exponentially increased. 

A senior official from the MCD’s veterinary department said, “We are preparing the initial bid documents to invite requests for proposals to undertake a dog census in the city. By the end of this year, we plan to have a better view of the population and distribution across the city’s 12 wards.”

MCD’s E-waste disposal facility a success

Meanwhile, in other updates related to MCD, the civic body said that it has got an encouraging response for its online collection drive for the scientific disposal of electronic waste. 

“We have partnered with a vendor to dispose of old and unserviceable IT equipment after collecting them from offices, residents, RWAs, and market associations. According to the agreement, the company purchases e-waste like discarded mobile phones, monitors, CPUs, printers, etc. from citizens through an online system and ensures its disposal in a proper manner. People who want to use the services can submit a request on an application https://ewaste.mcd.live/ or call on toll-free helpline number,” an official said.
