Meerut News: The New Meerut Scheme, aimed at establishing a fresh township in Meerut, is set to move forward as the Meerut Development Authority’s proposal was presented to the Additional Chief Secretary at the government level, resulting in the allocation of Rs 503 crore for the initial phase. This initiative will involve the development of a new township in two phases, encompassing 300 hectares of land situated between Partapur and Mohiuddinpur. Once the proposal gains approval from the cabinet, the allocated budget will be released, allowing for the commencement of the project.
New township project in Meerut
To address the housing challenges arising from urbanisation, the government has initiated an Integrated Township plan, wherein authorities will receive fifty percent of the required funding for land acquisition. The Meerut Development Authority (MDA) prepared a proposal for a new township between Partapur and Mohiuddinpur (Bhudbaral, Partapur, Chhajjupur-Ikla) under the Chief Minister Urban Expansion Scheme.
MDA initially presented this proposal, based on the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy, to Secretary Housing, Ranveer Prasad, emphasising the necessity of development around the Rapid Corridor. Consequently, the authorities have decided to execute the township project in two phases. During a recent presentation to Additional Chief Secretary Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, MDA Vice President Abhishek Pandey, Secretary Chandrapal Tiwari, and City Planner Vijay Kumar Singh addressed various questions regarding the scheme’s necessity, its impact on the local population, and the required investment.
Abhishek Pandey, the Vice President of MDA, disclosed that land acquisition is estimated to cost approximately Rs 2,000 crore, with a funding request of Rs 1,000 crore. The proposed New Meerut township will be developed across 300 hectares in two phases between Partapur and Mohiuddinpur (Bhudbaral, Partapur, Chhajjupur-Ikla), with an initial approval of Rs 503 crore granted by the Additional Chief Secretary.
New developments in Meerut
Vijay Kumar, the City Planner for MDA, emphasised that the city is witnessing the convergence of rapid rail, metro, expressway, and highway connections, accompanied by the development of an extensive highway network surrounding the city. Against this backdrop, the proposed new township is poised to become a significant milestone in the city’s development, attracting residents not only from Meerut but also from nearby regions such as Delhi and Gurgaon. Additionally, the township offers an attractive prospect for Meerut residents who commute to Delhi and Noida for employment opportunities.
