Meerut News: A young individual residing in the vicinity of Kankarkheda police station in Meerut borrowed a sum of five thousand rupees using a mobile loan application from China. The app later hacked his phone and stole personal data and his photos. Now, they are blackmailing him with obscene photos and asking for more ransom.
Investigation underway by cyber cell
The lender gained unauthorised access to the youth’s mobile device. Later, they demanded 35 thousand rupees from the young man, threatening to manipulate and spread an explicit version of his photo. The boy has since lodged a formal complaint with the SP Crime and Cyber Cell.
Vishal, a resident of Kankarkheda, reported to the SP Crime that he had downloaded the Chinese mobile application known as Guard-Credit from the Google Play Store. He availed a loan of Rs 5,000 through this application, and the funds were successfully transferred to his account.
However, after a span of 15 days, he began receiving incessant calls and threats for blackmail from the app. So far, he has already paid a total of 35 thousand rupees, and he is now being forced into making additional payments.
Chinese apps banned by government
In a recent development, the government has identified 94 Chinese loan applications that were engaging in fraudulent practices by significantly raising interest rates, in some cases by as much as 3,000%. This alarming exploitation of users has had severe consequences, with reports of tragic incidents such as suicides among users from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, directly linked to the distress caused by these unethical lending practices.
