Mumbai: A delivery boy, 25, was detained by Powai police on suspicion of sexually assaulting a stray dog on Saturday night behind Heera Panna Mall.
Akash, the accused, caught the dog and committed the crime behind the shopping centre.
A bystander witnessed the assault and informed NGO staff, who then lodged a complaint. According to Sawant, Akash was detained in accordance with the Animal Protection Act’s provisions.
Animal activist Minu Sheth, 61, of the NGO Bombay Animal Rights, who also feeds stray animals, filed the complaint.
Reports state that the accused has been raping this dog for a number of days. When another delivery boy caught him in the act, he recorded it on camera and sent it to his friends, coworkers, and other known individuals. This is how the video got to animal activist Vijay Mohnani.
Vijay Mohnani had said that this is the second instance of such type of crimes. He also asserted that delivery boys are not safe for general public if they possess such kind of behaviour. Continuing further, he also remarked on how their employers don’t even go through a police check before hiring them.
