Mumbai News: Chaos in Powai! Stone Pelting at Police During Anti-Encroachment Drive, Officers Injured

Stone-throwing breaks out during an anti-encroachment sweep in Powai, Mumbai, escalating tensions and wounding police officers. Construction continued in spite of the original notices, which prompted the police and municipality to start demolition and sparked fierce protest.

Mumbai News: During the anti-drive campaign in the Bhimnagar neighborhood of Powai, Mumbai, there was an incidence of stone throwing directed at the police. It’s also reported that this stone-throwing has hurt a few police officers. Preliminary reports state that today at 10.30 am, the police and administration of the Municipal Corporation were present at Jai Bhim Nagar in Powai to conduct an anti-encroachment drive.

Municipality Notice for Demolition

The S Division of the Municipality has already published a notice regarding demolition action in this region. Today, the construction in the encroached area was not removed despite the Municipality’s notice, therefore the Municipality and the police began the demolition process. The local populace was vehemently against the Municipality’s conduct. A sizable audience gathered here as soon as the action began, and tension was raised.

Stone-Throwing Incident

There was a police squad on hand for this operation. However, the throng objected to the procedure and began throwing stones at once. There are reportedly some injured police officers. There are reports that the cops had to use lathicharge in order to break up the group. “A few police personnel have been injured in stone pelting on Police and BMC officials during an anti-encroachment drive in Powai area. Heavy police presence in the area,” Mumbai Police said.
